Who has kicked the most first goals in 2022?
Four players have tied for the most first goals in the AFL home and away season for 2022.
GWS co-captain Toby Greene, Adelaide veteran Taylor Walker, Freo tall Rory Lobb and St Kilda young gun Max King have both kicked four opening majors this season.
This is quite an extraordinary result for Greene and Walker give both players missed a substantial stint of games at the beginning of the season.
Greene missed the opening five games after intentionally making contact with an umpire late last year while Walker missed three games following a racist comment at a SANFL game.
Rory Lobb has also missed two games this year.
Behind these two players are 16 players on three first goals and 17 players on two.

Which teams have kicked the most first goals in 2022?
It’s no surprise to see that the more successful teams in AFL season 2022 have generally kicked more first goals than others, but there are a few surprises in the club-by-club first goal stats, namely the team on top of the table.
Rank | Team | First Goals |
---|---|---|
1 | Geelong | 14 |

1 | Western Bulldogs | 14 |
4 | Melbourne | 13 |

The Giants obviously jump out on this list. Despite a putrid season, they are equal first on the teams list for first goals.
Given there tends to be better prices on offer for players in underdog teams, GWS players may be good value in these betting markets.
Meanwhile, finals aspirants Collingwood and Carlton are both in the bottom four for first goals this season, so they may be teams to avoid when placing a wager.
