Cannot see this being a straight set result and with the history between Alcaraz and Djokovic, the total games going overs appears to be the play.

Novak has played in the last five Wimbledon Finals prior to 2024 – the last four of those went over the total games which included two five-setters, with the his 2018 victory going unders against Kevin Anderson who was ranked outside the top-20 at the time.

Alcaraz on paper is the deserving favourite – the Spaniard has won four of his last five matches at majors against top-five opposition, with three of those going to five sets and the other two at least four.

It hasn’t been an outstanding tournament by Alcaraz – he’s had some nervous starts resulting in five of his six matches this Wimbledon going overs, but he’s been good enough to find a way.

Djokovic has a 3-2 career record over the Spaniard, with four of those matches going to a deciding set – the one exception being last year’s French Open where Alcaraz endured full-body cramps in the last two sets. Of the 17 sets the two have played, eight of them have gone to seven which suggests we’re almost certain to see a tiebreak in this Final, so I’m extremely confident in the total games being cleared in this.

Although Alcaraz hasn’t been at his best the last fortnight, this will be a huge step up for Djokovic and his knee. The Serbian has played just one player inside the top-20 the last fortnight which was Holger Rune, who played like someone ranked outside the top-200. Expect another chapter between these two players with a five-set epic, and if it gets to five I think Alcaraz finds a way.
