Best Bet

18. Aeliana
Randwick R9 (5.15pm)

Aeliana could have contested any number of races at the Championships so the fact that Chris Waller has thrown the filly into the Derby is a very strong push as to her ability. She clearly brings the outstanding form off the back of her third placing in the Rosehill Guineas and the way she savaged the line suggests 2400m should be ideal. Suspect the Kiwi form is a cut below this season so happy to risk Willydoit and company.

Recommended Price: $3.00
Confidence Level: 4.5/5

More Racing Tips

1. North England
Randwick R1 (12.25pm)

More than happy to stick with the Golden Slipper form in this two year old contest and the best exponent of it here is North England, who comes off a good sixth placing in that race despite fading late off a hot pace. Coming back 100m will do no harm, he can lead and win.

Recommended Price: $3.00
Confidence Level: 4/5

1. Desert Hero
Randwick R3 (1.35pm)

Happy to go with the UK galloper Desert Hero in this. Trained by genius Englishman William Haggas, he brings very good form over from the UK, most notably a third in the St Leger as a three year old. Ryan Moore takes the ride and while he has the topweight, he clearly does so for a reason.

Recommended Price: $5.00
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

1. Rivellino
Randwick R6 (3.20pm)

If there was any horse that had ‘back me next time over further’ next to his name off the Slipper it was Rivellino. He was shuffled back to near last there and absolutely savaged the line over 1200m, suggesting the step up to 1400m – on a track he has won twice at before – will be ideal. Hugh Bowman comes back to Australia for the ride.

Recommended Price: $3.50
Confidence Level: 4/5

1. Overpass
Randwick R7 (4.00pm)

Overpass is a prolific winner who can cement himself at the very top of the Australian sprinting ranks – in what looks to be a weakish edition of the TJ Smith. He might well have won the Everest in the spring had he been in it (based off times), and his two wins from three in the spring were exceptional. Been trialling up beautifully for this.

Recommended Price: $5.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5

20. Linebacker
Randwick R8 (4.35pm)

Three year old Linebacker looks irresistible in this race with the 49Kg. We saw just last year with Celestial Legend that even a non-superstar 3YO takes a lot of beating with a feather weight and Linebacker’s credentials look even stronger. He was a terrific winner over Broadsiding and Aleiana in the Guineas, and neither of those are here. Swiftfalcon is the main danger – if he gets a run.

Recommended Price: $6.50
Confidence Level: 3.5/5
