I’m highly surprised that Philosopher isn’t the favourite here. The gelding has won three straight and while he comes into this off a freshen, he was a brilliant jumpout winner on Monday against some class horses. I expect him to do what he has done before – go straight to the lead and run them into the ground.

At any other track it would be hard to look past Ceerseven in this field but a horse who is almost certainly going to be back near last at Moonee Valley is seldom a betting proposition unless their name is Winx. Adandiman on the other hand will be right on the speed here, likely leading. He bounced back to his best at Warrnambool last time and should be highly competitive if he brings that form here.

Tango Jewel has a race fitness edge over key rivals and that can prove decisive. The mare has been knocking on the door with three straight seconds, most recently in what looked to be a very strong midweek race at Sandown. From barrier four she should sit right on the speed and looks nice value here.

I really liked the way that Don’t Doubt Dory hit the line last start at Flemington and that looks they key form race for this with several runners coming from it. He should only strip fitter third up and out to his optimum trip, looks very well placed against this field.

Recommendation has been heavily backed to win this race and it’s easy to see why. The gelding has a race fitness edge having been racing well since August and while he doesn’t have weight for age form, his recent performances at stakes level in Sydney have been excellent. Just needs to get a good run across from the wide draw to be the one to beat.
