Coming into the season depth was always going to be a big problem for the Saints but the loss of Derek Carr has turned a bad situation into a disaster.
While Carr is technically doubtful on the injury report, he is expected to be in the stands along with his two top receivers, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, and a number of offensive linemen.
Spencer Rattler, Carr’s replacement, looked every bit the fifth round pick as he threw two picks and took five sacks last week against the Bucs.
That’s a big problem against a Broncos offence that has, easy strength of schedule notwithstanding, ranked third for points per drive and yards per drive through six weeks.
Rookie quarterback Bo Nix hasn’t exactly lit the league up but he – together with playcalling guru Sean Payton – can do enough on offence to cover the small line here.
