Rosehill Race Tips & Best Bets

Rosehill is the major racetrack in Western Sydney, located just to the east of Parramatta and not far from the Sydney Olympic Park complex.

Racing has been conducted at Rosehill since 1885, and originally the course was privately owned. After 1943 the racecourse was managed by the Sydney Turf Club, which merged into the Australian Turf Club in 2011.

The Sydney Turf Club had a deserved reputation for innovation, and much of that owed to Rosehill’s signature event, the Golden Slipper Stakes.

The Slipper is Australia’s greatest race for two year olds, and any colt that wins it is likely to be valued upwards of $30 million as a result.

First run in 1957 and won by the champion Todman, it has been won by many greats of the turf since.

During the 1980s the Slipper was occasionally the richest race run in Australia, as a stakes war broke out between the STC and the Victoria Racing Club which runs the Melbourne Cup. It is currently worth $5 million.

Although smaller than its cross town contemporary Randwick, Rosehill is nevertheless an outstanding spacious track, with a long home straight. Races are run over 1100m, 1200m, 1300m, 1400m, 1500m, 1800m, 2000m, 2400m and 3200m.

Group 1 races run at Rosehill include the Golden Rose, Golden Slipper, Ranvet Stakes, Vinery Stud Stakes, Tancred Stakes, George Ryder Stakes, Coolmore Classic and The Galaxy.
