Va Via is superbly placed in this race. The Godolphin mare is the highest rated horse in the race but gives away just one kilo to all but one runner. She put the writing on the wall with a top first up run at Randwick, and her last three starts in Victoria all resulted in victory. Damian Lane rides. Good thing.

Speranzoso has struck a rich vein of form and can win again. The stayer ran second to Glentaneous two starts back which is excellent form then went to Cranbourne last time and bolted in by eight lengths. A noted leader, he should go straight to the front and take all the catching once again.

No knock at all on the favourite Rey Magnerio but I think the gap in the market between him and Rich Fortune is too big. Rich Fortune’s form is rock solid for a race of this kind, he’s perfectly drawn, and gets Damian Lane. Well and truly capable of causing the upset.

Holymanz comes back a little in trip here and that can get her back into the winner’s stall. She was a terrific winner over a similar trip during the Flemington Carnival but didn’t quite see out the 2000m last time at Cranbourne. She should get the absolute run of the race from barrier two as well.
