UFC Fight Night: Della Maddalena vs. Prates Main Card Picks
Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates
It was disappointing to see Maddalena lose his welterweight title to Islam Makhachev last year, but it was expected. Most fighters are overmatched against Makhachev, who is a much tougher opponent than Prates.
We thought Della Maddalena would be the favourite to win in front of an Australian crowd, but most of the money has come for Prates, who scored a KO win over Leon Edwards in impressive fashion at UFC 322.
His last two wins came by KO, following a loss to Ian Machado Garry, but Della Maddalena is good enough to repel the challenge, and we have him winning at $1.98 odds.
Beneil Dariush vs. Quillan Salkilld
One of the best-backed fighters on the Fight Night card is Quillan Salkilld, who comes off a submission win over Australian Jamie Mullarkey.
The 26-year-old is 10 years younger than Beneil Dariush, who is a quality fighter, but he looked outmatched against a rising star.
Bookmakers have Sakilld at $1.17 to win, but there is better value at $1.68 for a KO win. That’s what we’re locking in, and it should be an exciting co-main event.
Tim Elliott vs. Steve Erceg
Just when it looked like Steve Erceg was going to make a big impact in the flyweight division, he lost three consecutive fights to Alexandre Pantoja, Kai Kara-France, and Brandon Moreno. However, his recent win over Ode Osbourne bodes well.
Because of those losses, he has fallen down the rankings, and now he’s facing Tim Elliott, who has 13 losses on his record. It’s a slight fall from grace, but the Aussie is a firm $1.39 favourite to win on Saturday night.
We have Erceg winning on points at $2.10, which is a value price.
Marwan Rahiki vs. Ollie Schmid
Ollie Schmid is a late call-up to fight the unbeaten Marwan Rahiki, and there are no odds currently available.
We expect Rahiki to be the very short favourite, somewhere in the $1.10 range, and his unbeaten run shouldn’t come under threat of ending.
He has a bright future, and although it’s disappointing to have to face an unheralded opponent, he could make quick work of it in the featherweight bout.
Shamil Gaziev vs. Brando Pericic
There isn’t much betweem Shamil Gaziev and Brando Pericic in UFC betting markets, with Pericic the $1.76 favourite.
He is 6-1 after going 2-0 in the UFC with wins over Elisha Ellison and Louie Sutherland. They both came by first-round knockout, so it has been an impressive introduction to the UFC for the 31-year-old.
We expect him to fight well against Gaziev, who has more experience as a 14-2 fighter. Gaziev suffered a first-round KO by Waldo Cortes-Acosta last year, and he might need more time to recover from the big blow.
Tai Tuivasa vs. Louie Sutherland
Tai Tuivasa is a knockout merchant, and although he has struggled over the last few years, he should fancy his chances against Louie Sutherland.
Tuivasa has plenty of UFC experience, and he has fought some of the toughest heavyweights in the game. We don’t think Sutherland is one of them, and although the $1.50 odds are short, he’s a good multi bet pick.
It’s often a case of who lands the first blow, and Tuivasa doesn’t wait to find out.
