UFC 322: Della Maddalena vs. Makhachev Main Card Picks
Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev
It could be a long night (or a short night) for Della Maddalena. We want the Aussie to defend his title, but Makhachev is a beast, and he deserves to be the short favourite in Sunday’s title fight.
The former lightweight champion, who vacated the title earlier this year, comes off a submission win against Renato Moicano, and competing in the welterweight division won’t worry him one bit. He’s a dominant fighter, and he could go unbeaten for the rest of his UFC career.
That’s the challenge facing Della Maddalena, who is as tough as nails. He won the title against Belal Muhammad, who wasn’t able to keep up with the 29-year-old in his first title defence. However, most believe Della Maddalena is simply the keeper of the title for Makhachev.
We agree, so we’re backing Makhachev to win. The $1.36 is short, and there is better value with $3.05 for him to win by submission.
Valentina Shevchenko vs. Weili Zhang
There isn’t much between Shevchenko and Zhang with UFC odds. Shevchenko is the $1.87 favourite, and this is clearly her toughest test in recent history.
Zhang was a dominant force in the strawweight division. Her output is truly impressive, and if she comes with the same aggression against Shevchenko, she could handle being the smaller fighter. That’s the worry when backing Zhang, because she has a smaller reach; she’s not as tall, and she weighs less than the champion.
However, she is as tough as they come, as is Shevchenko, so there will be nothing between them. However, we’re backing Zhang to win. Her aggression could overwhelm Shevchenko, who will look to keep her at bay with kicks.
Getting $1.97 for Zhang is too good to pass up, in what could be the Fight of the Night.
Sean Brady vs. Michael Morales
Punters get another close market as Sean Brady and Michael Morales fight in the welterweight division. The winner will likely face the winner of the main event early next year, so there is a lot on the line.
Brady showed his versatility when submitting Leon Edwards in March, which followed wins over Gilbert Burns and Kelvin Gastelum. He’s a tough fighter to beat because of his submission game, and his only loss came against Belal Muhammad.
Morales is on the rise, especially for a 26-year-old. He earned his chance against Brady with a KO win over Burns, and his power is starting to shine through. He also scored a first round win over Neil Magny, and Magny is a tough fighter to stop.
However, if Brady takes him down, it could be all over. We’re picking Brady to hand Morales his first career loss, which should be another excellent fight at UFC 322.
Leon Edwards vs. Carlos Prates
It wasn’t long ago when Leon Edwards was living life as the welterweight champion after defeating Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. However, now he’s fighting for survival in a tough division.
After losses to Muhammad and Brady, Edwards must now pick up the pieces against Carlos Prates, who is the firming $1.50 favourite. Prates has mixed form since arriving at the UFC, but all five of his UFC wins came by knockout.
His only UFC loss came to Ian Machado Garry, where he was taken down too often. We can’t see Edwards applying the same pressure, and it could be an all too familiar result for the Brazilian, as we see him winning by KO.
The slippery slope is expected to continue for Edwards.
Beneil Dariush vs. Benoit Saint-Denis
Benoit Saint-Denis gets a good chance to lodge his third consecutive win after submitting Mauricio Ruffy and Kyle Prepolec.
The 29-year-old has recovered after suffering back-to-back KO losses to Dustin Poirier and Renato Moicano. It takes a good fighter to bounce back from that, and he’s the current $1.48 favourite to beat Beneil Dariush.
Dariush showed his professionalism when beating Moicano by decision. He landed 5/5 takedowns, which helped him control the fight, but taking Saint-Denis down isn’t as easy. Saint-Denis loves to grapple, so Dariush’s best offence is negated.

UFC 322 Multi Bet
We have four fighters included in our UFC 322 multi, including Makhachev, Brady, Prates, and Nickal.
They all have an excellent chance of winning for punters, and we’re including Bo Nickal from the prelims. He lost his most recent fight to Reinier de Ridder, but he’s good for a bounce-back effort on Sunday.
Our UFC 322 multi bet pays $5.08. If you want to boost odds to $10, include Weili Zhang in the co-main event as a fifth option.
