AFL Tips – West Coast v Gold Coast – Round 1 2022

Gold Coast have been installed as favourites against an injury and covid riddled Eagles outfit.

Best Bet

Gold Coast -7.5 ($1.90)

The offseason from hell has culminated in the Eagles starting as outsiders in Round 1 against the Suns.

It’s not hard to see why they are outsiders. West Coast are missing half of their best 22, struck down by a combination of injuries and covid.

Nonetheless, it is an open question as to whether the Suns can be trusted in this spot. This is just the fifth time they have started favourites on the road since 2017.

They were road favourites once last year, against Adelaide and lost outright.

Still, there comes a point at which simply fielding a competitive AFL side becomes a challenge. West Coast is at that point. They will require multiple players to play roles they are simply not accustomed to.

The Suns might not be very good but they should be good enough to beat this depleted West Coast side.

Same Game Multi

Gold Coast H2H / Xavier O’Neill 20+ Disposals / Andrew Gaff 25+ Disposals / Touk Miller 30 + Disposals ($5.87)

O’Neill had 18 against the Suns last year and should see more midfield time with so many injuries to the Eagles midfield brigade. Gaff will be shouldering much of that midfield load while Miller has gone over 30 in his last sixteen games.

Value Bet

Touk Miller 40+ Disposals ($6.00)

Miller gets touches for fun against teams that are actually good, let alone this barren Eagles outfit. He’s yet to crack 40 in a senior game but will never get a better opportunity.
