The 152nd Open Championship has some outstanding top nationality bets. Here are the best of them.
Top Japanese
Matsuyama is a standout bet to be the top Japanese golfer. His form around the greens this year has been absolutely elite, ranking 1st in Strokes Gained: Around The Green and 2nd in Scrambling. Looks an anchor in any multi over the weekend.
Top Australian
Putting and chipping will decide this Open Championship and 2022 winner Smith has all the assets. He leads LIV in Strokes Gained: Putting, Putting Average and Strokes Gained: Around The Green, as well as Sand Saves. He will be able to put the driver away here, which will help, and if he can find fairways he can absolutely win again.
Top Swedish
Ludvig Aberg looks severe unders this week as he makes his Open Championship debut on an incredibly difficult track. Aberg has a bright future but his recent fades and a knee injury have him susceptible. Veteran Alex Noren ticks a lot of boxes this week including ranking 3rd in Scrambling and 6th in Strokes Gained: Around The Green.
Top Canadian
Just four Canadians tee it up with Corey Conners unsurprisingly favoured. Hughes looks the bet though. Hughes has been playing well with three Top 10s since March including in his national open. Played two Open Championships and finished T-6 in 2021.
