Old rivals England and France square off at their fourth straight World Cup and while England should win, a thumping is no moral.
Best Bet
One of Rugby League’s oldest rivalries resumes when England and France do battle at HBF Park in Perth.
The venue certainly sets up well for England, who won’t travel this week having played Tonga in Perth last Saturday. France make the trip from Sydney.
There is no doubt England have the major talent edge with 10 players having had NRL experience compared to just Latrell Siegwalt for Les Chanticleers.
While England will almost certainly win – France have not beaten England/Great Britain since their famous Headingley win in 1990 – this line does look to be on the big side.
These teams have met seven times over the last decade and six of those have been decided by 38 or fewer.
France need to be taken on a good dose of trust but the plus looks big – they just cannot continually give England the ball in good field position.
Same Game Multi
Herbie Farnworth has six tries in 10 games in his national colours while he has 27 tries in 44 games the last two NRL seasons.
AJ Brimson scored in the loss to Tonga last week while he has 31 tries in 78 games at fullback in the NRL.
Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet has four tries in his last four internationals.
Value Bet
France were completely decimated by Samoa last week – in part due to their own stupidity, in part due to the fact they were stripped for numbers time and again on their edges. That sets up well for speedster Zach Eckersley to fill up much like Deine Mariner and Sua Fa’alogo did on the left last week when combining for five tries. Eckersley had a monster year with 36 tries in 32 games including nine multi-try games.
