We have an excellent slate of games this week and this early Friday clash between Melbourne and Newcastle is one of the more compelling affairs.

The Storm are reasonably heavily favoured here but despite reputations, the Knights are the better team. Newcastle rank fifth in scoring and 10th in defence while Melbourne rank 11th in scoring and 8th in defence. It is most notable that in the six games with Kalyn Ponga, the Knights have scored 28-plus in all six while conceding more than 22 just once.

This is a handy spot for the Knights, who are 15-6 ATS against bottom five teams while they have covered 13 of 21 interstate.

Melbourne have covered just one of seven against top 4 teams and five of 17 at night.

Newcastle have covered three of the last four against Melbourne and looked well-placed to improve that recent cover record.
