The opening match of Round 13 is a compelling affair even with both teams missing key players.

Nicho Hynes was not named for Cronulla while Tolutau Koula has been ruled out with concussion for Manly with Haumole Olakau’atu unlikely to back up after suffering from cramps in Origin.

The key to this one is Manly’s form. They have had the best defence in the NRL since Kieran Foran took over, not conceding more than 18. They have also topped 32 in four of their last six. Cronulla have conceded 34 or more in three of their last five.

Cronulla also have a very poor record against Top 4 teams, covering eight of 26 with an average losing margin of 11ppg. They have covered just three of nine off extended rest too.

Manly have covered seven of nine against teams outside the Top 8, their last six as an underdog and four of their last five at Shark Park.

The plus is a good play.

Jackson Shereb was outstanding in his starting debut last week when playing 80 minutes, running 72 metres and making 48 tackles. He ran some outstanding lines and went very close to scoring. He has been in good scoring nick in NSW Cup when scoring seven tries in 27 games the last two seasons. With Haumole Olakauatu highly unlikely to play, Shereb is likely to play 80 minutes.
