Detroit are reportedly enamoured with Jaden Ivey but he will likely be off the board by the time the Pistons are on the clock. Detroit are one of several teams that have been linked with trading up to No. 4 but Sacramento are currently seeking a king’s’ ransom for that selection to be pried away from them. See what I did there?
If Ivey is taken fourth overall, Mathurin makes plenty of sense to be placed next to Cade Cunningham. Mathurin has impressed on the private workout trail while excelling in competitive action, individual drills and interview sessions. The value is too good here to ignore in what is likely a two-horse race between Mathurin and Keegan Murray.
This is somewhat contingent on the previous one coming through but at better than 2/1, I’m happy to back Murray to slide and have something smaller on both. Murray is believed to still be very much in play at No. 4 and while this is Sacramento we’re talking about, they would be foolish not to leverage their position for further assets.
Indiana is a team that makes a lot of sense for a swap with the Kings. The Pacers are one of several teams who have been linked to Ivey and will almost certainly need to move up to make that happen. Malcolm Brogdon is believed to have been made available in trade discussions and that signals to me that their intent is real.
A deal centred around pick four (Ivey) and pick six (Murray) makes too much sense to me and the value is there for this to be a play. A Haliburton/Ivey backcourt in Indiana would be absolutely mouthwatering and as interesting as any across the league.
Sharpe is considered to be something of a mystery due to his lack of experience but his elite physical tools and perimeter shooting ability still make him worth consideration at the pointier end. There is plenty of distance between Sharpe’s draft ceiling and floor but reports suggest that the Blazers will likely have him close to top of their board when they find themselves on the clock.
Portland’s acquisition of Jerami Grant would suggest that they are still very much looking to compete for a playoff spot in the loaded Western Conference next season and that thinking may translate to them making another trade on draft night involving the No. 7 pick.
One such team who is rumoured to be kicking the tyres on a potential deal is Oklahoma City. The Thunder have been linked to Sharpe for some time and GM Sam Presti is no stranger to prioritising high-upside talent.
