Golf Tips – Valero Texas Open 2022

Hideki Matsuyama

The final hitout before The Masters may see the current green jacket wearer taste success.

Best Bet

Hideki Matsuyama ($26)

Defending Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama no doubt has bigger fish to fry but he looks the pick of the favourites this week in San Antonio.

The Sony Open is one of the better guides and Matsuyama won this year and was Top 20 the year prior.

The key profile this week is a strong iron game and Matsuyama ranks 10th in GIR, 10th in Strokes Gained: Approach and 9th in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green. He also ranks 5th in Par 5 Scoring.

Finished 30th here last year but in his current form he should be contending.

Mid-Tier Bet

Luke List ($61)

Farmers Insurance winner Luke List is playing some quality golf and looks well placed to return to the winner’s circle.

List leads the Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green while he ranks 5th in GIR, 5th in Driving Distance and 13th in Strokes Gained: Approach.

Tremendous value.

Value Bet

Andrew Novak ($251)

North Carolina journeyman Andrew Novak enters this off his best result of the season, a T-11 at the Corales Puntacana Championship, while he finished Top 25 in both the Puerto Rico Open and the Mayakoba, two of the key correlation tournaments.

He is a flyer but can absolutely finish in the Top 20.

Prop Bet

Make Cut – Mito Pereira ($1.55)

Rising Chilean star who has made the cut in three of his last four starts and looks really well placed here.
