The Saints were awful for three quarters last week against Melbourne before a miraculous final-quarter comeback. North have been poor for weeks, but the potential inclusions of Nick Larkey and George Wardlaw are significant.
Instead, we’ll look to St Kilda’s young superstar, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, to fill up against the defensively lax Roos.
Good players tend to shine against the Kangaroos, whose midfield often runs one way. In the last three weeks, Bailey Smith has had 43 disposals, Heeney 34 and five goals, and Petracca 31. Even if North suddenly decided to tighten up defensively, they simply do not have a player who can go with Nasiah.
Wanganeen-Milera has recorded 30 or more disposals in six straight home games. In the last month alone, he has posted totals of 34, 36 and 43. He also had 29 against North in their last meeting, back in Round 8 last year, when he was a far less developed player.
Backing the Saints’ young gun for a big game looks like the strongest play here.
Same Game Multi
Half backs have tended to fill up against the Saints this year, so Colby McKercher should be good for 30+. He’s hit that mark in three of his last five, including his last two at Marvel.
Jack Higgins has kicked six in his last two games and 2.2 in each of his last two against North. The returning Nick Larkey has kicked eight in his last three against the Saints.
Value Bet
As mentioned, Nas has hit the 40 mark once in the last month, and that was in a loss to Hawthorn. The Roos look just about cooked for 2025, so he could have another monster game.
