The Cats have won and covered in each of the last three meetings with Collingwood, and the most recent was not close. They put 54 points on the Pies at this venue back in Round 9.

Collingwood’s run looks better on paper than it does under the bonnet. Five of those six wins came against bottom-six opposition and the other came against Adelaide, a side the Pies have long treated as their bunnies.

The jury is out on how the Pies will perform if Nick Daicos is contained by the league’s best tagger in Oisin Mullin. The Brownlow favourite had 29 against the Cats last time they met but it was his second-lowest rated game of the season, indicating the tag seriously affected his impact.

The selection news does not help either. Brayden Maynard is out, which strips arguably Collingwood’s most important stopper from a back six that will have plenty to handle. Jordan De Goey sits under an illness cloud on top of that.
