Round 4 kicks off with an Ignite Cup classic between the 36ers and Melbourne United, both teams are desperate to win and redirect their current trajectory.
Adelaide 36ers Vs. Melbourne United (Wed 7:30pm)
Best Bet
Melbourne have slipped to 1-3 and currently sit second last on the overall standings. They face an Adelaide 36ers side in Adelaide, with Cotton and Cheatham both playing. Here’s why I think they come away with a win.
It hasn’t clicked for Melbourne so far, but they are not far off and with the names on this roster, there’s a reason they are still a favourite to win it all.
Oduro has been giving them great inside presence and should give Rakocevic headaches all night, Cole Anthony dropped a 40-piece last game but should now realise that he needs to get his teammates going, if they are to start accumulating wins. The return of Shae Ili will help give them solid defensive prescence and he should get more than seventeen minutes tonight, working his way back from injury.
The three-day turnaround for Adelaide is hard for any club but add to that the 36ers injury woes, and I see them struggling to hold out a United side that is desperate for a win.
Cairns Taipans Vs. Brisbane Bullets (Thurs 7:30pm)
Next Best
The bookmakers are struggling to split the Bullets and Taipans, but I have seen enough from Brisbane to back them in, at decent odds.
There is no secret that Arnas Velicka is the real deal for the Bullets, but the emergence of Max Mackinnon has filled the Bullets faithful with confidence. Nate Hinton was slow to start the season, but the American import was great in round 3 dropping 21 points against Tasmania.
With Hinton, Mackinnon and Tyrell Harrison all scoring over 20 points, it was a surprise to see them still go down to the JackJumpers. Import guard, Jaylen Williams is yet to fire but I think Brisbane become a scary proposition once all of their offence is firing. Although the Taipans were great against Melbourne, they are still too streaky for mine.
Perth Wildcats Vs. New Zealand Breakers (Sat 9:30pm)
Value Bet
If you only watched Perth’s first game of the season you would be disappointed with what ADO produced after returning from college at Arizona.
Fast forward to round 4 and we have seen a bit more of Dell’Orso’s bag. He is now averaging 14.3PPG for the season, which includes the duck egg he produced, in twenty minutes on Perth’s opening night.
Willing to forgive the opener, I see ADO with an incredible opportunity to provide offence for Perth, with JLA likely to miss and Jaron Rillie only playing the nine minutes last game. The Wildcats are still waiting for import point guard Brandon Knight to be ready, he remains a possibility to miss this game as he acclimatises.
Dell’Orso has looked far more comfortable as the season progresses and has shown scoring at all three levels. We saw his clutch free throws down the stretch against South East Melbourne, which shows me he is cool as a cucumber.
