Round 3 serves up a top of the table clash, between the only two sides that remain undefeated. Reigning champs Sydney will play host to a Brisbane Bullets side that are starting 2026 on fire.

The Kings have started their championship defence in perfect fashion, winning their first two games. Two sizeable victories over both Illawarra and Cairns, they have averaged 116PPG.

Brisbane have cleaned house and the new side looks to be jelling, winning two games in a row for the first time since December 2024. This new look squad has all the right pieces. Arnas Velička looks to be a certified superstar and his pick and roll game with Tyrell Harrison is becoming tough to defend. Add to that the outside shooting touch of Max Mackinnon and the Bullets are legit.

Unfortunately, they face the Kings, in Sydney, which is no easy task. The Kings are an enormous step up from Brisbane’s first two opponents, and I see Sydney giving the Bullets their first loss for the season.

Mojave is the injury replacement for New Zealand, after Josiah Jordan-James sustained a hamstring injury which will sideline him for several weeks. The former Cairns Taipan couldn’t find a roster spot for this NBL season but will provide some spark for the Breakers in his limited time.

To finish the 2025 NBL season, King scored double digits points for his last six games. He averaged 15PPG across that period and gets a chance to show the Taipans they shouldn’t have let him go.

The redemption narrative should be enough for King to get motivated for this game. He played thirty-one minutes against Perth and should feature just as much, especially if Charles Bediako continues to come off the bench after disciplinary issues.

Illawarra Hawks Vs. Adelaide 36ers (Fri 7:30pm)

This says more about the Illawarra Hawks than the 36ers. The Hawks are 0-3 and things are not looking likely to improve any time soon.

Justin Tatum continues to play with his lineups and is struggling to find a consistent starting group. The Hawks recently parted ways with import Darius Days and his replacement is yet to be found. Add to that, the injuries to Blanchfield and Peatling and they look thin in the bigs department. They are scoring well, but leaking points like a sieve, having 106PPG dropped on their heads on average.

The schedule has been questioned, with three away games so far, including facing Brisbane and Sydney in round 2. Even with a home game, it won’t get any easier here, with Adelaide unlucky not to be another undefeated side, dropping one game off an Elijah Pepper Hail Mary.
