The Pies should remain competitive here.
There is a question over the Hawks against the best teams this year. Against top eight opposition they are 4-5-1, with only two covers from those 10 games.
The match earlier in the year was the only draw seen in the AFL in 2026.
The Hawks were awful last week against the Lions, losing by 67 points. They were bullied around the contest and their much-lauded defence couldn’t stop a Brisbane onslaught.
There have been few meaningful changes this week, with Ned Reeves dropped to leave Lloyd Meek as the only recognised ruck, and mid-season draftee Max Beattie handed a debut.
The Pies managed their veterans for the win over West Coast and regain Scott Pendlebury and Jordan De Goey for this clash. They have won seven of their last eight and are in good form.
Only three of their eight defeats have come by more than this margin. Two of those were against Geelong and one against Brisbane.
The Pies remain a very well drilled side and should remain right in this contest.

These are two good teams to take half backs against, so expect Jarman Impey and Josh Daicos to fill their boots.
Ginnivan seems to lift against his old team, having had 24, 26, 31 and 31 in his last four against the Pies.
Value Bet
Hawthorn’s record against top eight teams is a worry entering September, as was their performance against the Lions last week. The Pies have rested their veterans cleverly for this game and look a big price for the upset, albeit by a narrow margin.
