UFC 319: Du Plessis vs. Chimaev Main Card Picks

Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev

We expect Chimaev to be the favourite against the middleweight champion, and punters get $1.48 for the unbeaten fighter, who many fighters have been too scared to oppose.

The 14-0 Russian submitted Robert Whittaker in the first-round last year, which followed a decision win over Kamaru Usman. His lack of experience against the best in the division is a worry, but that’s because they’re too scared to fight him.

He not only has good power in his hands, but he’s also excellent in the wrestling department. That’s something du Plessis could struggle with, as he looks to retain his UFC belt.

Du Plessis is a worthy champion, having beaten Sean Strickland to retain his title after beating Israel Adesanya to win it. However, Adesanya and Strickland weren’t at their best, and Chimaev is the man on the up.

Take Chimaev to win by submission at $2.75, which is a much better price.

Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico

Aaron Pico is the latest fighter to come out of Bellator, and he comes with plenty of hype. He’s the current $1.72 favourite to beat Lerone Murphy, who boasts an impressive 16-0-1 record.

Pico is 13-4 in Bellator, and although the 28-year-old looks the part, we think Murphy’s experience in the UFC gives him the edge. Murphy comes off a win over Josh Emmett, and he has beaten some of the toughest fighters in the featherweight division.

It’s going to be a good fight as the co-main, and given the $2.10 odds for Murphy to win, we can’t turn down that price. He’s a six-year UFC veteran, and he knows a win will get him a featherweight title shot against Alex Volkanovski.

Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates

We have seen a resurgence from the experienced UFC fighters recently, and Geoff Neal fits the bill.

The 34-year-old might be nearing the backend of his career, but he showed that he still has power when knocking out Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 308, which was one of his career highlights. It took Neal only 1:30 to win, and that confidence can’t be understated.

Prates is also a good fighter, but both Neal and Prates lost to Ian Machado Garry, which put their title hopes on ice. We think Neal has looked better in recent fights, and Prates hasn’t fought since losing to Garry in April.

Neal is fresh, and seeing as he’s paying $3 to win, we’re including him in our UFC 319 picks.

Win

Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page

Michael Page is the $1.57 favourite to beat Jared Cannonier, and it’s not hard to see why. He comes off a win over Sharapudtin Magomedov, who has looked good since.

The former Bellator champion is 38 years old, but he’s fighting 41-year-old Jared Cannonier, who scored a fourth-round knockout win over Gregory Rodrigues earlier this year.

That was a good performance from the ageing fighter, but Page is fresher, and he should take care of business. He’s paying good enough odds to include in UFC 319 multi picks.

Michael Page
Win

Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura

Most of the early money with UFC odds has come for Kai Asakura, who looks to hand Tim Elliott his 14th career loss.

Asakura was thrown into the deep end when making his debut against Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight title at UFC 310. We don’t believe he was deserving of his place in that fight, so it’s good to see him facing someone like Elliott.

He needs to earn his stripes in the UFC, and although it’s a fall from grace, it wasn’t his fault. He should rebound against Elliott to win at $1.33 odds.

Win

UFC 319 Multi Bet

We have four fighters included in our UFC 319 multi bet predictions. It includes Chimaev, Page, Asakura, and Godinez.

They are all favoured to win their fights on Sunday, but when combining all four fighters, punters get $5.87. That’s an excellent price for the four-leg multi, and if you want even more value, include either Neal or Murphy – they are underdogs to win, and they could boost payouts significantly.
