The numbers suggest Melbourne can keep this close, at least until three quarter time.

Brisbane have been shocking favourites lately. They’ve failed to cover in nine of their last 13 when favoured, nine of their last 11 as home favourites and in each of their last six against bottom four teams. The underdog has also covered in the last six meetings between these sides.

The Lions may be on top of the ladder but they were far from convincing against North last week. Expected scores actually had them losing by 30 points.

Melbourne were solid for three quarters against the Hawks, trailing by just one point at the final change before collapsing late to lose by 35.

Fourth quarters are a major issue. They’ve only won one all year (against West Coast) and are averaging just 8.75 points in final terms outside that game.

Expect the Dees to be competitive early before fading late.
