Despite having all the weapons to destroy bad teams, Brisbane simply refuse to do so. They score enough but switch off defensively, conceding the fourth most points against bottom-six opposition since the start of 2024. From their last 16 games against bottom-six teams they have covered in just four, only one of their last eight. Their average winning margin against bottom-six sides is just 21 points over the last three seasons.
Essendon are rubbish but the Lions make it very hard to back them to do the damage, despite them regaining star players in Hugh McCluggage and Dayne Zorko.
It won’t be a comfortable watch, but history suggests taking the Bombers to keep this within the enormous line.
Same Game Multi
Essendon are the second-best match-up for small forwards. Charlie Cameron has kicked two or more goals in five straight games at the Gabba, while Kai Lohmann has kicked ten goals in his three games against Essendon.
Will Ashcroft has had 30 or more disposals in three straight, with the Bombers the best match-up in the competition for inside midfielders.
Value Bet
Lohmann is coming off the best game of his season, kicking five last week, and loves playing Essendon, having kicked 4.2 against them earlier this year. In red-hot form against his favourite opponent, another big bag looks on the cards.
