Doubt Time is a real talent that looks well placed in the Blue Sapphire Stakes. He was a brilliant debut winner here back in July, then resumed in the Danehill with really eye catching run in what looks a hot form race. Mark Zahra will look to get cover early and can run over his rivals late.

The wet track is the X-factor here but remember that the world’s best racehorse is a Kiwi bred by Shamexpress, and his pedigree isn’t a red flag either. I’m happy to back him in to handle the conditions and reports are that, if anything, he has travelled across from Hong Kong even better than last year.

Caulfield Cup
Wine Dark Sea has been well backed in the lead up to this race and looks the clear pick of the foreign raiders in this year’s Caulfield Cup. He has drawn wide but has enough early speed for Damian Lane to overcome that and he was last seen easily beating Dubai Honour – a horse we know well in Australia – in a Group 3 in Newbury.

Geegees Mistruth just looks beautifully placed dropping back to mares company off the back of an excellent fifth placing in the G1 Manikato Stakes last start. She has to carry the 61Kg but has well and truly earned it being 13 ratings points clear of her nearest rival. Blake Shinn takes the ride which only increases confidence.

Athabascan won this race two years ago and he showed with a good run in the Metropolitan he is getting back to that form. He was given no hope there by the rider but got through the line well. The prospect of rain affected ground is in his favour and Zac Purton takes the ride.

Shadhavar is much better weighted than the favourite Concord Connie so looks a very good bet here. She was beaten in Adelaide last time but had to give the winner 8.5Kg and she still ran very well. She is super consistent, loves firm ground and Craig Williams rides.
