I’ve been tracking this the whole series but haven’t been brave enough to attack it. For obvious reasons, it’s a dangerous game betting against the 7ft 5 phenom, but the stats don’t lie.

For all that Wemby has done these playoffs, he hasn’t been hitting this number consistently against New York. With so much influence on the outcome, the Knicks know that they must stop the alien if they are any chance of winning these games. So far, so good.

Wembanyama is averaging 41.1PRA this series, which is a slight increase on his season averages but correlates with the extra playing time he plays, due to being in the finals. Only clearing 30+ once and only grabbing double digit rebounds twice, the Knicks are beating Wemby as a team. Even when he drew early fouls on Kat, Robinson and even Ariel Hukporti have come in and made things difficult, with their fouls to give.

Yes, the Spurs are an elbow jump shot and a missed tip-in away from being up 3-1 themselves, but that’s basketball. The 30-point comeback by New York might be too much to overcome mentally for this young Spurs side.

The Knicks showed an unbelievable resolve and proved as a team that they have the mental strength to come back from anywhere. It would have been easy to give up and save the starters, returning to San Antonio 2-2. What we witnessed was unquestionable belief that they not only could come back, but could win the game.
