Group I Preview
Countries: France (3), Senegal (15), Norway (31), Iraq (56).
Now this is a group of death. The French were the number one world ranked team just a fortnight ago but now sit third with a game to play tomorrow.
The French are spearheaded by Kylian Mbappe and reigning Ballon D’or winner Ousmane Dembele and are truly spoiled for choice throughout their roster. Honestly, they could probably qualify a second team for a world cup using the bottom half of their squad and players unlucky to miss out.
Senegal beat France in 2002 and although that’s a generation ago, both teams will need no reminding.
Norway have returned for the first time since 1998 and can attribute any success and potential hype before this Cup to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland. The blonde-ponytailed superstar is that of a mythical god and the Norwegian fans will be hoping he can play like one.
Led by former Aussie gaff, Graham Arnold, Iraq defeated some significant South American football nations to qualify, but unfortunately wont contest with the heavy hitters in Group I.
Group I
Best Bet
Speaking of ‘group of death’, Group I is about as close as we will get for this World Cup.
France led by Kylian Mbappe, Norway led by Erling Haaland and a red-hot Senegal who scored 22 goals during qualifying.
I would have liked a bit more reward in the odds for backing the French, but their recent World Cup final history has crunched them right in.
