Loved the Australian debut of The Euphrates in Chelmsford Stakes where he stuck on well behind Lindermann. It was a very encouraging performance given he is a winner out to 3400m so the step from a mile to 2000m here will suit. Comes in well under the set weights and penalties with just 55Kg.

The market gave Birdman no hope first up in the Memsie and while he never troubled the winner, he did run nicely through the line over the 1800m. This is the kind of race he has won before – just a length or two off the top liners, none of which are here. Should be right in the finish.

Remarkably War Machine hasn’t been out to 1400m since he won last year’s Stradbroke – and what a win that was. He showed with a good first up run behind Oliveanotherday that he is back to his best form and that is good enough. The query is he will be getting a long way back but the speed should be on and he has the right jockey in Damian Lane.

Happy to bet around the much overrated Cruiserweight who is fast establishing himself as a bookies pin up horse. Porter nearly caused a boilover first up but it was the much underrated Home Rule who held him off.
