UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveira Main Card Picks

Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira

It’s hard to go against the champion Topuria, who is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC.

No disrespect to the former champ Charles Oliveira, but Topuria is unbeaten at 16-0, and he made Max Holloway look like a fighter on Dana White’s Contender Series. It was a good fight until he put Holloway away in the third round, and it showed how good he is.

He defeated Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski to win the title, and although Oliveira has his advantages, we can’t see Topuria losing his belt in Las Vegas on Sunday. Take the short $1.22 odds, and punters will get better odds for a KO win.

Ilia Topuria
Win

Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France

There is a good chance of Kai Kara-France pulling off an upset. He’s wild enough to land a big punch on the chin of Pantoja, and punters get $3.25 for the Kiwi to become the second New Zealander to win a UFC title behind Israel Adesanya.

Beating Pantoja won’t be easy, considering the champion defeated Kai Asakura without breaking a sweat at UFC 310. However, Kara-France is built much tougher than Asakura, who we believe had no right to be fighting for a UFC title.

The Kiwi will come with a full head of steam, and as he did when dispatching Steve Erceg in the first round at UFC 305, he could end the night early and become champion.

Kai Kara-France
Win

Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van

There isn’t much between Brandon Royval and Joshua Van with UFC odds, with Van holding favouritism at $1.80.

The Burmese-American fighter is only 23 years old, but he looked good when knocking out Bruno Silva at UFC 316, and fighting so early after that fight is a good sign. That came in June, so he’s backing up after three weeks off.

We love that attitude, and although it hasn’t paid off for some fighters, Van could make the most of his chances against a former top contender in the flyweight division. Royval hasn’t fought since October, and that layoff could work against him.

He’s good, but momentum is with Van, so take the $1.80 odds for the rising star.

Joshua Van
Win

Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano

Two UFC vets for a potential chance at the lightweight belt, and it’s Renato Moicano who has a slight edge with UFC 317 odds.

Islam Makhachev beat him at UFC 311, and he would love a chance to redeem himself after getting submitted in the opening round. That loss could leave him hungry for another chance, and the experience is invaluable.

Beneil Dariush didn’t fight in 2024 following a knockout loss against Arman Tsarukyan, and that’s not a good sign. He is a 22-6-1 fighter, but we think Moicano can exploit his weaknesses, which include a weak chin.

Renato Moicano
Win

Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima

With only two losses between them, there isn’t much between Payton Talbott and Felipe Lima, but most of the money has come for Lima.

He is 2-0 since arriving in the UFC, and although both wins came by decision, he dominated Miles Johns in his most recent outing in December. He landed two takedowns and a decent submission attempt, and that form bodes well for this fight.

Talbott suffered his first UFC loss when losing to Raoni Barcelos at UFC 311. He got taken down eight times, and with Lima possessing good takedown abilities, this fight could be spent mainly on the canvas.

Felipe Lima
Win
