UFC 316: Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley 2 Main Card Picks

Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley

We don’t think O’Malley deserves another chance at the bantamweight title after a dour performance at UFC 306. The American landed 49 strikes compared to Dvalishvili’s 214.

It was one of the more one-sided title fights in recent history, but the lack of depth in the bantamweight division is rearing its head. Dvalishvili has since defended the title against Umar Nurmagomedov, who at least put up a fight.

The champion is the $1.33 favourite and we’re not surprised. He should dominate 18-2 O’Malley for the second time, and we can’t see this fight going any other way. It could pay to take the odds before they shorten to around $1.20 on fight day.

Win

Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison

Despite being the champion, there has been no betting support for Pena. She is the $5.50 underdog to beat Harrison, who has been good since making her UFC debut last year.

The American defeated former champion Holly Holm by submission before taking a decision win over Ketlen Vieira. We didn’t think Vieira was much of an opponent, and Pena will be a much harder fighter to beat.

Pena won the title back after beating Raquel Pennington. We think she is being disrespected in betting markets, and title experience can’t be overlooked. Getting $5.50 for the champion is too generous to overlook, and Pena loves an upset.

Julianna Pena
Win

Kelvin Gastelum vs. Joe Pyfer

All the rage in this fight is Joe Pyfer, and he’s up against a constant steppingstone in the middleweight division.

Almost every title prospect must go through Gastelum at some point in their career, including Jared Cannonier, Robert Whittaker, and Israel Adesanya. Pyfer is the next cab on the rank, and he should make the most of the situation.

He hasn’t faced the same level of opposition as Gastelum, but he comes off a KO win over Marc-Andre Barriault, and he has seemingly gone to another level. He’s a scary fighter, which is why he’s paying $1.25 to win.

Knocking out Gastelum isn’t easy, so Pyfer will need to go the distance and grind out a win.

Win

Mario Bautista vs. Patchy Mix

Patchy Mix makes his UFC debut as a $1.58 favourite to beat Mario Bautista, and he could make a big impression from the outset.

The former Bellator fighter is riding a seven-fight win streak, including a split decision win over Magomed Magomedov last year. That form has since been franked, and the former Bellator bantamweight champion sets his eyes on UFC gold.

Bautista is a solid fighter, but we have seen Bellator fighters have success in the UFC, and Mix, whose name is tough to ignore, could set the Octagon alight.

Patchy Mix
Win

Vicente Luque vs. Kevin Holland

Despite having 13 losses on his record, Kevin Holland is a world class fighter. He defeated Gunnar Nelson in March and seeing him backing up three months later is a good sign.

The 32-year-old hasn’t given up on another title chance in the welterweight division, and although Vicente Luque is a tough fighter at 23-10-1, he could struggle to keep up with the range of abilities from Holland.

He has fought the best in the division, which is why he’s the $1.40 favourite. That’s a good price, and he’s well worth including in UFC 316 multis.

UFC 316 Multi Bet

Dvalishvili is our UFC 316 multi anchor. We can’t see him losing the fight, and we’ll be happy if our multi gets to the last leg.

We’re also including Joe Pyfer, Patchy Mix, and Kevin Holland.  They are three solid fighters, and although we’re taking a risk with Mix, we’re happy to put him in the mix at the odds.
