UFC 314: Volkanovski vs. Lopes Main Card Picks

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Diego Lopes

Most of the money has come for Diego Lopes to beat former champion Volkanovski, and although we don’t want to see the Aussie lose, we think Lopes could have the advantage at this stage of his career.

The 26-6 Brazillian comes off a win at UFC 306 against the always dangerous Brian Ortega, and although Volkanovski is a better fighter than Ortega, it was good for Lopes to pass the test on his way to fighting for the title.

The 30-year-old has more upside than his opponent, and the $2 odds are worth taking in what could be the best fight of the year.

Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett

Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett should excite the crowd, and although $1.62 for Pimblett is getting too short, we’re backing the wild Englishman to get the job done.

He has handled the public scrutiny well, and he has learned to let his fighting do the talking. The 30-year-old defeated King Green by submission last year, which followed a decision win over Tony Ferguson. He hasn’t faced the best fighters, but he’s still improving.

Chandler is no joke, and he’s a $2.30 underdog, but Pimblett passes the eye test, and he could become champion one day.

Paddy Pimblett
Win

Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva

With only two losses on his record, Jean Silva is a good chance of beating Bryce Mitchell. The 28-year-old comes off a first-round knockout win, and he has every chance of repeating that effort against a loose cannon in Mitchell.

We’re not entirely sure what goes through Mitchell’s mind at the best of times, but there’s no doubting his talent. He took care of Kron Gracie in three rounds at UFC 310, but Gracie shouldn’t be in the UFC, so it was an easy win.

$1.40 is short for Silva, but he’s a $2 chance to win by KO/TKO, which is better value.

Yair Rodriguez vs. Patricio Pitbull

Yair Rodriguez is one of our favourite fighters to back, and although he let punters down with losses to Volk and Ortega, he wasn’t expected to win those fights.

Fighting Patricio Pitbull is a much better outcome for Rodriguez, who is looking to get back to winning form. We can’t see him losing to Pitbull, and getting Rodriguez at $1.50 is better than we expected.

We priced him around $1.35, so include him in multis and look for the 32-year-old to have a much bigger fight later in the year against a featherweight contender. He could fight the loser of the title fight, so the opportunity is there for him.

Yair Rodriguez
Win

Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes

We’re not sure why Nikita Krylov is the $1.53 favourite. Sure, he’s a good fighter, but Dominick Reyes has every chance of pulling off an upset.

Reyes comes off a knockout win over Anthony Smith, and that’s an excellent form guide. Knocking out Smith is easier said than done because he has an amazing chin, so credit Reyes for delivering the goods.

Krylov hasn’t fought since submitting Ryan Spann in 2023, and having that long out of the Octagon could come at a cost. He also has a win over Alexander Gustafsson, but he could be past his best, and we’re not thrilled by the odds.

Headlining the multi are the main events, where we have Lopes and Pimblett winning. The odds are well worth taking for both fighters, and they can boost payouts because they are $2 and $1.62 respectively.

Rodriguez and Julian Erosa are also included at shorter odds, but with all four fighters included in one bet, punters get $6.26.
