Caroline Dolehide
To Win a Set

Perhaps a brave strategy, but I’ll continue to back against Krejcikova this Wimbledon with the Czech underdone – surely she can’t repeat her efforts from last year.

Caroline Dolehide was really good in her first-round against Rus who is ranked just inside the top-100.

The American has claimed a set in her last three matches against top-50 opposition – as for Krejickova, she is 10-10 against players ranked between 30-80 since the start of 2024, and has won in straight sets in just four of the 20 matches with her opponent retiring in one of those. Just can’t see this being regulation for the 2024 Champion.

Next Best

Marcos Giron +3.5
Game Handicap

A straight sets win to kick off the tournament for Marcos Giron who is an experienced campaigner on grass court – since entering the top-50 last year, the American has a 9-4 record on grass including winning Newport last year.

He faces talented Czech Jakub Mensik, who doesn’t have that same level of experience on the surface, playing 12 matches across his career on grass for a 5-7 record and just 1-3 against opponents inside the top-50.

Although he has the serve for grass court, I still think Mensik lacks the all-round grass court game and the experience of Giron puts him in a good position for this second-round clash.

Fabian Marozsan
Match

Appears to have played himself into form against his Australian opponent in the first-round, and now faces Jaume Munar.

The Spaniard has been a handy tennis player for a long time but never cracked the top-50, and comes off a career-best win on grass against the in-form Bublik in the first-round.

That being said – Bublik has a way of losing the matches he should win, with that being Munar’s fifth career win on grass, taking his record to an underwhelming 5-15.

I think the Hungarian is better suited to the grass with the market overreacting to Munar’s first-round win.

Anna Kalinskaya
Match

Potentially harsh, but the Russian has been genuine rubbish this year compared to a big 2024 – but has performed on grass across her career, so I’m giving her the edge in this against Clara Tauson.

Kalinskaya reached the Round of 16 at Wimbledon last year along with reaching the Final in Berlin, so the grass court pedigree is there.

As for Tauson, she’s 6-9 on grass across her career and just 1-4 against top-50 opposition. Statistically of all players that won in the first-round, the Dane had the second-worst serve and return rating – and this was against a 33-year-old, 143rd ranked Heather Watson.

Surely Kalinskaya can find a way in this.

Sofia Kenin -3.5
Game Handicap

Easy win for Kenin in her opening round, and I expect much the same when she faces Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.

The Spaniard is better suited to clay despite having a solid run at Wimbledon last year, but really no match for Kenin on this surface.

The American is 8-4 on grass as a top-100 player against opponents ranked 51-100, and in 2025 on all surfaces Kenin is 10-1 against opponents ranked in that bracket. Just think she gets this done.

Value Bet

Corentin Moutet
Match

I’ve been sucked in here! The Frenchman is a player I hate backing, and generally loses when he’s supposed to win – but he’s an underdog in this and I don’t mind the price.

Moutet is 9-3 on grass this year including reaching the Final in Mallorca, and he takes on Grigor Dimitrov.

We took the Bulgarian in Day 2 with great success against Nishioka – but that match says more about how the Japanese is travelling. Dimitrov entered Wimbledon underdone, usually playing Queen’s in the lead-up but not doing so this year due to a quad injury he endured at the French Open.

Moutet has a 2-0 career record over Dimitrov surprisingly, including 2019 Wimbledon where he upset the Bulgarian in five sets. Could lightning strike twice six years on?
