Bergs will face Jaime Faria, who advanced through qualifying, and has played his best tennis on clay across his career.

The Portuguese hasn’t played much tennis on faster surfaces against opponents ranked inside the top 100, but between hard and grass courts he’s just 3-7. I think the strong grass form of the Belgian will be too much for Faria.

The Italian plays his best tennis at majors, so happy to look past what he’s done outside of Grand Slam events over the last two years.

Lorenzo Sonego recorded a solid first-round win against Etcheverry, who is a clay courter but is more than capable on grass.

The Italian will now face Gabriel Diallo, who got out of jail against an injured Bonzi who lead two sets to nil, with the Frenchman eventually retiring down a break in the fifth. Diallo is just 4-9 over the last three months, and although a lot of that includes clay which he’s not suited to, I’ve got my concerns with the Canadian.

Arthur Fils was one of the form players in the world before injury that forced him to miss the French Open.

The Frenchman didn’t miss a beat though in his return, with a straight sets win over the solid Collignon.

His second-round opponent is Matteo Berrettini, who got past Stan Wawrinka but really struggled on return of serve, breaking the retiring Swiss legend just once, with all four sets going to tiebreaks. If Fils can pull up fit and firing from his first round clash, he should be far too good for the Italian.

Joint has lost her last ten matches against top-100 opposition, and has covered the game handicap in just three of those matches.

As for Eala, she’s 10-3 against players ranked 50-100 this year, and has covered the game handicap in the last six matches she’s faced against players ranked in that range. Expect this to be a bit of a reality check for the Australian.

Really like the price for Yannick Hanfmann, potentially playing the best tennis of his career at 34 years of age.

The German’s grass court numbers in terms of serve and return point percentage has been better than his second-round opponent, Karen Khachanov, dating back to the 2025 grass court season.

In fact, on all surfaces the Russian has struggled against anyone that is half-decent this year, with a 3-10 record against players ranked 25-75, despite being the favourite in ten of those 13 matches. Khachanov wasn’t great against Billy Harris, and I feel Hanfmann is a genuine play here.
