The Polish journeyman has strung together a top-end grass court lead-up, reaching the Semi Final at Birmingham followed by winning s Hertogenbosch including the scalps of De Minaur, Medvedev and FAA – he even challenged Lehecka in the first-round of Queen’s immediately afterwards.

He faces clay-courter Alejandro Tabilo, who smashed him at this year’s French Open but this is a completely different setup.

Tabilo has been poor in his two lead-up games on grass, and although he had a good run in 2024, outside of that his record is just 5-10 on the surface.

You’d think Virtanen will only need to win the one set for the total games to cover in this, and I think the Fin is capable.

He’s a proven grass courter, where he’s 32-13 on grass dating back to 2022, with Virtanen taking Tommy Paul to five sets in 2024.

Shelton is in outstanding grass court form, but nearly all of his matches have gone over the total games, dropping at least one set in six of his seven lead up matches on grass. The American is a strong performer at majors, but I don’t think this will be regulation for Shelton.

The Frenchman is polarising, with a poor lead-up to Wimbledon despite his game perfectly tailored for grass – and that’s the key reason why I’m taking Halys in this.

He’s up against Matteo Arnaldi – the Italian that reached the Semi Final at the French Open, but was forced to withdraw with illness. Arnaldi has played a few grass court matches in the lead-up, but it’s a surface he’s genuinely struggled with across his career going 1-4 against top-100 opposition across his career.

Mensik vs Samuel Under 38.5

I’m surprised to see two things in this – the match price for Mensik, along with how large this total games line is.

Mensik has had a limited lead-up off the back of his French Open Semi Final run, but the 20-year-old Czech is quality. He faces Brit Toby Samuel, ranked 123 in the world, who has flown up the rankings this year but only played a handful of games against top-100 opposition.

Even if he drops a set, I think we’ll see Mensik do this comfortably enough to land under 38.5 total games.

Marie Bouzkova -4.5

The Czech has been dominant on the grass of late, entering Wimbledon off the back of winning Nottingham.

Bouzkova has covered the game handicap in six of her last seven grass court matches, and has played well at Wimbledon previously reaching the Round of 16 in 2023.

Talia Gibson has had a great hard court season, and wasn’t bad in her lead-up with losses to Keys and Pliskova, but this will be a big challenge against the red-hot Czech.

I understand she has not played tennis in nearly four years, but hear me out!

Serena just about would have lost this first round match to anyone – except Maya Joint. The Australian could currently be the worst player on the WTA tour, and from her last 14 matches she has won just one, against an opponent ranked 140 in the world on the challenger tour.

Serena may hit 60 unforced errors in this, but psychologically I just expect her to figure it out and find a way to win against an opponent that has completely forgotten how to do so.
