Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have featured in the last three major finals. Can we expect something similar this Australian Open?
Champion

The odds indicate a two-horse race and the market is correct. Sinner and Alcaraz have now won the last eight majors between them, including facing each other in the last three.
Looking at Sinner’s draw, there’s no real danger despite a couple of obstacles. Joao Fonseca in the third-round is a tantalising match-up, while Ben Shelton can cause some problems if the serve is one.
At the end of the day though, Sinner is the best hard court player in the world and should win his third consecutive Australian Open title.
Runner Up

Not a great record in Australia, but it’s a terrific draw for Alcaraz as the number-one seed.
There’s absolutely no dangers for the Spaniard getting through to the Quarter FInal stage, and even there he’ll face either De Minaur or Bublik.
Semi Final will likely be his first test – but does he have the hard court control to beat Sinner here?
Semi Finalists

Record in Australia is outstanding despite never winning the Australian Open reaching the Final on three occasions in the last five attempts.
The Russian started last year in underwhelming form, but finished the year strong post the US Open in the end of year hard court swing, and enters this Australian Open off the back of winning in Brisbane.
Will likely need to get past Zverev and Auger Aliassime, but at his best it’s very possible.

Easily the weakest quarter of the draw which is music to the aging ears of Novak Djokovic.
The Serbian will be able to conserve energy in a quarter where there’s no standout whatsoever – Musetti isn’t an outstanding hard-courter, while Fritz hasn’t been in great touch the last six months.
Could reach the Semi Finals without facing a top-30 player.
Roughies

At his best, he’s a real threat in the third quarter. Jiri Lehecka’s biggest issue has been his body holding up, in particular over the last twelve months, but his game can trouble just about anyone outside of Sinner and Alcaraz.
Lehecka will need to get past both Fritz and Lehecka, but with the American’s recent form and the Italian’s capabilities on hard court, if he’s at his best and firing fit then he could be the one to emerge from the third quarter paying $13.

Grand Slam record is significantly better than his record at ATP level, and has performed well at the Australian Open across his career.
Ben Shelton has played here on three occasions, and was a Semi Finalist last year as well as a Quarter Finalist in his first visit down under in 2023.
The biggest problem for the American is that he’s in Sinner’s quarter of the draw – but he is one of the few players that has the weapons on tour to take a scalp.
