The conditions in Roland Garros have brought Majchrzak right into play here against Alejandro Tabilo.

The Chilean has entered the French Open in great clay form, but this is playing much faster than he’s accustomed to, and his record at the tournament is underwhelming at 1-2 in the main draw with losses to Bergs and Popyrin – not exactly pure clay courters.

Majchrzak isn’t in great form, but this is a huge head start against an opponent of similar ability.

Is Shapovalov here for the pay check? The Canadian is 2-4 on clay this year, and his last two matches in the lead-up were extremely poor – to the point where you get the impression something isn’t right.

He lost to world 140 Nicolai Budkov Kjaer 6-2 6-1 in Madrid, and then Navone had no trouble in Rome winning 6-4 6-2.

Faria has strung together wins in qualifying to reach the main draw, and has played a heap of clay court tennis on the challenger circuit this year with a 21-11 record.

Has had a bit of Grand Slam experience now, and I think the Portuguese should do a number on Shapovalov.

Has been impressive this year moving to 68 in the world with an 18-9 clay record this year.

Performed well in Houston on the faster clay, reaching the Final with wins over Nakashima and Tien, before going down in three sets to Tommy Paul.

His opponent Sebastian Baez generally is a proven clay court performer, but after starting 2026 on fire on the hard courts, he’s struggled on clay with an 8-10 record this year with a poor lead-in.

Oleksandra Oliynykova -3.5

A 46-19 record on clay over the last 52 weeks for Oliynykova, and she faces the 201 ranked Pridankina in the first round.

Pridankina is just 12-10 on clay over the same period, with only two of those matches against top-100 opposition.

The Ukrainian should be too good for the 20-year-old Russian.

She’s not in groundbreaking form of late, but has managed to win her matches in qualifying which is more than what you can say about her opponent.

The Czech will play Elsa Jacquemot, who has a 2-13 record in 2026. Unfortunately for the Frenchwoman, both those wins were between January and March, and she’s 0-5 on clay in the lead-up against opposition that aren’t exactly world beaters.

Fruhvirtova has been touted as a talented rising star for a long time now, and hasn’t really lived up to it over the last few years. Now 21, she’s got an opportunity to advance to the second round here.

Performed well on the faster clay in Madrid reaching the Round of 16 running into the red-hot Rafael Jodar.

Vit Kopriva is 12-10 on clay this year and will come up against Corentin Moutet. The Frenchman is 3-6 on clay this year, and is having a poor 2026 with an 8-12 record on all surfaces.

Moutet has lost his last four matches on clay, with two of those against opponents ranked outside the top-100, so I’m surprised to see him enter this first-round clash as strong of a favourite as he is marked.
