The last three Grand Slam majors have been Alcaraz vs Sinner – will this be a fourth, or can one of the veterans left in the draw cause a massive upset?

Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev
I expect this contest to go to at least four sets. All the talk is around how good Carlos Alcaraz has been this Australian Open, which is perfect for Alexander Zverev who has always struggled with expectation.
The German has no expectation in this – hence the match line paying $5.50, despite Zverev winning their only previous encounter at the Australian Open in 2024 paying a similar price. Zverev has gone under the radar with a difficult draw, knocking off five players inside the top-55 in the world on his way to the Semi Finals.
With a career record of 6-apiece between the pair, Zverev leads the hard-court matchup 5-3 – if you remove the 2021 matches from the record where Alcaraz was ranked outside the top-40, it’s still 3-apiece suggesting that this will be a lot tighter than the odds suggest.
Three of their four matches at majors have gone overs – I’m backing in another one here.
Novak Djokovic vs Jannik Sinner
I just cannot find an angle for Novak Djokovic in this outside of the fact that he plays his best tennis when he’s got a point to prove – but this looks too far gone.
Djokovic was clearly hampered by the blisters on his feet in the Quarter Final, and looked uncompetitive against Musetti for two sets until the Italian got injured at the start of the third.
Sinner is a much more difficult proposition. He’s had his own issues with injuries and wellbeing this tournament, but he generally does – he had the exact same issues last year where he went on to win the tournament.
Since the Italian beat Djokovic in an upset win in 2024, he hasn’t looked back winning the last eight sets they’ve played including at the Semi Finals of the French Open and Wimbledon last year.
