Jannik Sinner vs Felix Auger-Aliassime
I just cannot see Felix Auger Aliassime touching Jannik Sinner in this Semi Final. The Canadian has been great this US Open, but his Quarter Final performance against Alex De Minaur appeared better than it actually was.
The Australian had a first serve percentage of just 42% – despite this, FAA still only won 39% of return points which was below the US Open average of 42% for winners over the tournament.
Sinner has barely broken a sweat dismantling both Bublik and Musetti the last two rounds dropping 10 games across six sets – and he barely broke a sweat when he played FAA in Cincinnati, winning 6-0 6-2.
Sinner has covered in four of his five matches this US Open – I can’t see how FAA can get close to the 2024 Champion.
Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz
If Novak Djokovic can play close to the level he showed against Taylor Fritz, Carlos Alcaraz will have a genuine battle on his hands.
Djokovic has a 5-3 record against the Spaniard – all matches being played when both players have been inside the top-ten. Three of those eight matches have been on hard court, with the Serbian winning all three including the Quarter Final of this year’s Australian Open – the total games hitting 39.
Alcaraz is 6-2 in Grand Slam Semi Finals, but more often than not it’s far from regulation. Six of those eight Semi Finals have gone over the total games including his last five, mainly due to being a nervous starter dropping the first set in six of those Semis.
I think the Spaniard will be too good in the end, but don’t mind Djokovic wo win the first set paying $2.75 in a match that could go the distance.
