Jannik Sinner vs Jack Draper
Sinner has only played Draper once with the Brit winning on grass back in 2021, but a lot has changed since then.
The Italian is elite on hard courts and with all the top-seeds falling around him I expect Sinner to cruise not just in this Semi Final, but to another Grand Slam title.
Although Draper hasn’t dropped a set this tournament, is it harsh to say he’s played no one? Van De Zandschulp couldn’t back up from his shock win over Alcaraz, Machac simply didn’t show up, while De Minaur’s hip appeared to have played up – but nonetheless, the Australian lacks any significant weapons.
Sinner doesn’t lack weapons – he absolutely smashed Medvedev off the court aside from a second set brain-fade, and he’s going to be far too strong in this Semi Final.
Taylor Fritz vs Frances Tiafoe
Think a lot needs to go Tiafoe’s way to win this Semi Final against Taylor Fritz. Although he is a crowd favourite, in an All-American clash he won’t necessarily have all the support he’s thrived off in previous matches this tournament.
This would have to be Fritz’s best and most consistent performance at a major across his career, and it’s off the back of his serve. Fritz is winning 75% of service points this US Open – significantly better than the other three Semi Finalists.
Fritz owns a 6-1 career record over Tiafoe with the latter only winning two sets from the last 15 sets. It’s the big servers that Tiafoe has historically struggled against, and if Dimitrov didn’t injure his groin in the Quarter Final this match-up could look very different.
My only concern is nerves getting the better of Fritz, but his game is much more solid than Tiafoe’s and taking away that home crowd advantage should see Fritz advance to his first Grand Slam Final.
