Here are our picks for Round 15 of Super Rugby action.
Moana Pasifika v Western Force
Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland. Tuesday 24/5 @ 7.05pm
Intensity may be lacking in this midweek make-up game with neither side a genuine hope of finals footy.
As expected, 2022 has been a learning experience for the Super Rugby newcomers. However Moana Pasifika have performed soundly against Australian opposition – losing by 1-12 margins in all 4 clashes.
The Force have been hammered in recent weeks with their opposition posting 50+ points in each of the last three weeks. Forget the mathematical finals discussion – they have put up the white flag for 2022. With a flight back to Perth between fulltime and Saturday night’s season finale v Hurricanes, this game can best be described as awkward for the visitors.
Two battlers, equally matched but entering the game in totally different mindsets. Expect Moana Pasifika to secure their second win of the season in front of their home fans.
The Perth side want to get home after a horrific NZ-leg whilst Pasifika are more than capable of going on with this. A rout is on the cards here and there is a good chance to cash in at a good price.
It may be close for much of the first half but expect the weak Force reserves to get more game time than usual. Look out for a good price on Pasifika if scores are close at the break.
Crusaders v Reds
Christchurch. Friday 27/5 @ 7.05pm
An intriguing match in many respects with both sides likely to finish in their current ladder position and face off at the same venue in Round 1 of the finals next week.
Expect the Crusaders to get the most out of their bench late. The Reds will challenge early but should drop away late when it counts. A nice hedge/split position on Crusaders minus is possible if Reds are competing at halftime as expected.
