Midweek racing comes from Sandown which – unusually – has missed the rain that hit Melbourne yesterday, with the track rated a Good 4. With our best bet yesterday winning paying $9.10, we will look to make it two in a row.

Zambezi Khan comes into this race first up but trainers Patrick and Michelle Payne have given her four trials leading into it so I expect her to be primed and ready to go. If that’s the case, she finds a beautiful race here where she has a clear class edge. She does have the weight but Tom Prebble has a great record riding her and takes off 2Kg.

Zoom should be ready to fire fourth up from a spell. The gelding comes out of a hot form race last start at Caulfield with Diwali winning the Sandown Cup on Sunday and Fernao running third in the Andrew Ramsden. This is a much easier contest and the Ciaron Maher trained gelding goes around a huge price on his best form.

Once again looking for some value in a distance race and here’s it in the form of Whistle Down. The Symon Wilde trained mare was an impressive winner against the pattern over the Warrnambool Carnival and the race has produced two subsequent winners. This is harder but she is a progressive type having now won three from nine and looks capable of going close again at big odds.

Easy Dun would be on the Mount Rushmore of disappointing horses and yet I can’t help but think he looks a good bet here. The gelding has abundant talent but has simply failed to deliver. He does race particularly well fresh and his best form would certainly be good enough. One more chance.
