Wednesday’s racing comes from Sandown where an eight race card commences at 3.40pm. Our best bet was a dominant winner last start at Sale.
Best Bet
Hey Fat Cat was as impressive a maiden winner as you are likely to see first up at Sale. The margin of victory was enormous, seven and a half lengths, and he also smashed the clock, breaking 1:09 for the 1200m which is good going anywhere, and about 13 lengths faster than standard for a maiden. This is a handy enough Class 1 but he should be able to come here and win.

The baldy faced Limburg resumes from a spell in this race and strikes a winnable affair. The three year old showed nice ability in the spring with a close up fourth placing in the Stutt Stakes behind three very smart ones in Griff, Verdad and Autumn Angel. He’s trialled nicely for this and it’s noteworthy the Hawkes camp have sent him south.

Chevalier Du Fau was disappointing last time at Flemington but had excuses in a race where was tripped wide at the back where the leader dominated at the front. With a small field this race sets up much differently and he showed with his surprise first up win at Warrnambool that he is up to a race of this kind. Comes in well with just 55.5Kg too.

Vinnie’s Spirit has been switched down to Melbourne by the Waterhouse/Bott stable and they certainly have a good record when they do that. The mare was run down in the last stride at the Kensington track last start by a talented stablemate and this race looks easier. Expect Jordan Childs to lead and take plenty of running down.
