Tempted should have won the Golden Slipper for mine and the filly gets her chance to avenge that defeat here. She just got held up at a critical stage in the home straight and lost momentum when she needed it. Back to her own sex here, she can prove too strong despite the wide draw.

Canara was a huge drifter in the betting last time out on the Kensington track but flashed home to only get done in a deceptive photo. The filly has shown the ability to race closer though and from barrier six she can lob in the first half of the field. She might just be looking for the mile now but at double figure odds is worth the gamble in an open race.

The market has this as a race in two between Matcha Latte and Lord of Biscay and that looks right. I’m in the corner of Matcha Latte who was narrowly beaten by Lord of Biscay first up but since looked back to his excellent best in the Hawkesbury qualifier. Should sit right on speed again and be too strong late.

Keen to be with two runners in the Sydney Cup. Alalcance seems a very short price stepping up to 3200m. Circle of Fire won this race last year and comes in off a much improved run in the Tancred Stakes last time. Zardozi was huge when fourth in the 2024 Melbourne Cup and brings strong weight for age form in this race.

It’s a strong edition of the Queen Elizabeth but we saw what Via Sistina did to her rivals in what we thought was a strong Cox Plate and she appears to have lost nothing in the autumn. The only query is barrier one, but if James McDonald (and he is good at this) can give her the right run, she’ll be too good again.
