Desert Lightning is beautifully placed against this field in two respects. Firstly, he is well treated under the set weights and penalties with 58.5Kg despite being the third highest rated horse in the race. Second, the race has a real lack of obvious speed so despite the wide draw, he should be able to get across and have the right run in transit. If he runs up to his first up second placing in the PB Lawrence, he wins.

Keen to play the Sydney visitor Graphic Sight at a price. His last run at Randwick behind the very smart Ninja was good but this race sets up very differently. Out in trip and with blinkers going on, I would expect him to lead as he did on his impressive debut. If so, he will give a bold sight and be hard to run down.
Recommended Price: $5.00

Lindermann’s first up run in the Winx should be forgotten as he simply does not handle heavy ground. The conditions here will be much more suitable and he has shown himself to be, if not an absolute top liner, then certainly a class weight for age galloper. He is the clear value in this year’s Chelmsford.

Headwall didn’t win a race in the autumn but his form – 4th Oakleigh Plate, 2nd Newmarket, 3rd TJ Smith, 2nd Quokka – has certainly established him as a topline sprinter. The Matthew Smith trained gelding flies fresh and will be looking to establish himself with an Everest slot so expect him to be ready to go – his trials certainly indicate that. He also maps well from barrier five.

Private Eye beat home our best bet in the Lawrence and goes back to Sydney to find another very winnable race in the Tramway. Like Desert Lightning, he comes in well under the set weights conditions. The barrier is the tricky aspect, but if Nash can slot in early he should prove too good.
Recommended Price: $3.00

Happy to play Oak Hill at a big price in the Moir. If he was coming into this race off his brilliant first up win, he would be half the quote he is here. Admittedly he was a touch disappointing last time out but he was held up at a critical time. The speed here will be frantic and the wide draw is to his advantage.
