The Kiwi contingent looks to dominate this year’s Vinery and I think it can be the (relatively) less favoured of the two, Belle Cheval, who can get the job done. She nearly upset the star filly Well Written in the rich Kiwi last start and steps up to 2000m, which shouldn’t be a problem. Expect her to position much closer in the run than Ohope Wins, coming back in trip, and that can make all the difference.

Sticking with the All Star Mile as the best form for the Australian Cup and while the margins were not big, there was no fluke about Tom Kitten’s victory in that race. He has drawn wide here but with Pride of Jenni sure to provide a genuine tempo, Craig Williams should be able to slot him into a good spot and be strong late.

Vauban ran third in this race last year, and this year appears to be weaker if anything. Aeliana I think is a risk at the 2400m, and Dubai Honour is another year older and has only won a four horse synthetic race since. Vauban was a top winner first up at this track and is much better suited here at weight for age than he was in the Cups during the spring.
