Every so often the quirks of the set weight system throw up some excellent bets and Front Page is a great example. Despite being the third highest rated horse in the field – just one point off the top two – he comes here with 55Kg. getting weight off much inferior rivals. He placed second in the G1 Galaxy two back and was a total forgive in the $5m Quokka which was run at a breakneck speed.

Will get the run of the race from barrier three with Tommy Berry up.

The 2024 NZ Oaks winner has always had some class about her and she should only be better suited here at weight for age. Looks beautifully placed against this field.

Veteran galloper Bank Maur hasn’t had much respect from the market here so looks a great bet at odds. There wasn’t much wrong with his run in the stronger Scone Cup last time out and he was a top winner first up at Cranbourne. From barrier one he should do no work in the run and can be strong late.

Mark Zahra is a great jockey but I’m sure that even he would admit that his ride on Benagil in the key lead up to this race, the Doomben Roses, was atrocious. He got it back third last on the fence and she never got clear until things were all over. Go off her previous run in Adelaide where she was terrific winning the Australasian Oaks.
