The Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast is the clear standout form reference for the Doomben Cup and Antino was absolutely exceptional winning it by three and a half lengths. He’s taken no harm from his Hong Kong trip and looks set to resume his trajectory as one of the outstanding racehorses in Australia. As always he will get back, but should be too strong late.

Metalart was a beaten favourite first up but more than happy to give him another chance on a track that will be much firmer. His form out of last prep was outstanding, including back to back wins to finish his campaign. Draws to get the run of the race and the claim for Collis helps as well.

Sunrays ran into Beadman first up and consequently has an eight length defeat to her name but that horse just might be something special. This filly comfortably handled the rest of her rivals in that race and there is no Beadman to worry about today. Can make it win four at start five.

Appin Girl comes into this race fresh but that won’t do her chances any harm as she has won two of three first up. That includes a terrific first up win at Eagle Farm last October where she came from a mile back to score over 1000m. Here shouldn’t have to be quite so far back, but can use that great turn of foot to run over her rivals.

Bella Montagna only comes into this Group 3 off a Kembla maiden win but the former Kiwi had some terrific performances at home to her name, including a Group 2 second placing. Now with the Waterhouse/Bott stable, she can be expected to lead or at the very least be on speed in a race where key rivals will be well back. Might just be able to pinch it.
