Very keen on Semana here third up and down in class from the CF Orr Stakes last start. The mare comes in particularly well under the set weights and penalties here, as she gets weight relief from horses lower rated than her including the favourite. Grinzinger Belle should run them along but Semana can pounce late.

Interesting that Scary backs up here just one week after resuming over 1400m in the CS Hayes Stakes. The Victoria Derby runner up will be much better suited out to 1800m and will certainly strip fitter for that run. Harry Coffey should be able to sit much further forward here from barrier two out in trip. Has the class here.

I thought if there was to be an upset in the Futurity Stakes then Tom Kitten would be the one to cause it. He was a couple of lengths off the absolute best horses in Sydney last spring but that form is still pretty solid around horses like Ceolwulf and Fangirl. He was a very good first up winner last spring also.

My Gladiola was a brilliant winner on debut at Sandown before going down in the Blue Diamond Prelude last time out. I’m prepared to forgive that run and stick with here in the big one. The critical thing for her is to get some cover early, if Jamie Mott can do that she has the class to win what looks only an average edition of the race.

Jimmysstar was a scintillating winner first up over 1100m in the spring and if he repeats that effort he is capable of stepping up to Group 1 level in the Oakleigh Plate. The gelding flies fresh, having won four from five first up, and should appreciate what will likely be a frantic tempo. He’s drawn wide but that shouldn’t hurt here.
