Planet Red simply looks a class above his rivals in the Alister Clark Stakes. For the first time this prep he won’t be in opposition to Observer, as these are really the ‘B’ grade three year olds. His racing of late has been against the ‘A’ graders and he has been terrific in both runs. The gelding should relish the 2000m.

Mr Bannock has gone to a new level this campaign which is no surprise as being Irish bred, these horses typically take time to get to their best. He was a terrific winner at Pakenham last time in weaker company, and he drops three kilos from that win. The gelding needed 2200m to break his maiden so suspect he will be even better out to 2400m today.

We like the Australian Guineas as a formline and while Planet Red is our best bet down in class, the horse that got the better of him there, Observer, should be able to win another Group 1 here in the Rosehill Guineas. The market has a race in two between him and Autumn Boy which looks right, but the extra trip can prove a big advantage for Observer from when they met in the Caulfield Guineas last spring.

Angel Capital bounced back to his best form in the Newmarket last start, finishing third when conceding the first and second placegetters weight and not having much luck late. He should only be improved for that effort and he is well capable of pressing the favourite Jimmysstar.

Happy to play Pembrey at a huge price in the Slipper. The big negative is the draw, so hopefully she can get across without doing too much work and it wouldn’t surprise if they were looking to track wide anyway. She had no luck two starts ago then bounced back with a dominant all the way win at Randwick last time. Looks to be well underrated by the market.
