The Pakenham Cup is the stand alone feature on the final Saturday before Christmas. There is some rain around but likely not enough to significantly affect the track.

Nadal took out the inaugural running of the slot race at Cranbourne on their Cup day and looks primed to do the same here at Pakenham. His Cranbourne win was simply a blistering performance and he shapes as a horse with genuine Group 1 potential. In the mean time, he looks superbly placed here once again.

The Tom Dabernig stable is flying at present and he can get another winner here with Boonie, who was a dominant all the way winner at Warrnambool last time. He needs to bring that heavy track form back to a firmer surface but he has shown the ability to do that in the past.

Duke of Condicote is a UK import with Ciaron Maher who will relish getting out to the 2500m here off the back of two sound runs over shorter trips, particularly his most recent third at Cranbourne where he closed off well against the pattern of the day. He draws to get a nice run midfield and will be strong late.

Saban was a huge drifter in the betting last time at Caulfield but despite that ran an excellent race to finish third after covering ground. He ran fourth in the Queensland Derby as a three year old so the extra furlong should be ideal, he just needs some luck early to go close on his home track.

Muramasa shapes as the one to beat in the 2025 Pakenham Cup. Happy to look past the race that wasn’t run to suit last time at Ballarat and go off his Geelong Cup run which was excellent for a race of this kind. The pace should be strong and he can run over them late.
